Frequently Asked Questions
What is an Extended Warranty (EW)?
When you buy a product you have consumer rights which entitle you to redress if something goes wrong. With Electrical Goods it is often the case that you can buy an Extended Warranty to supplement those rights, giving you extra protection and often extra benefits too.
Why are there different names for "Extended Warranties"?
Companies give their warranties different descriptions - for example Service Plan, Service Contract, Product Support, Customer Support Agreements, Insurance Policy, and others. The benefits will vary from one warranty to another, and you should read the details of the relevant contract to make sure that it is suitable for your needs.
What happens to my Extended Warranty if the company goes out of business?
It is a legal requirement that retailers who supply electrical goods advise you in their leaflet what protection you would have if the company goes out of business. There are 2 main types of protection - (1) some companies set up a trust fund which holds monies to pay for your benefits, usually this is managed by independent trustees, (2) if your extended warranty is an insurance policy then it will probably be protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. If the company has no such protection then it is obliged to tell you that in their leaflet.

How do I use this site?
To compare extended warranties for your specific product you should go to the home page and fill out the simple form. Select the category that your product fits under, add the price that you paid for your product and enter the length of the manufacturer's warranty that came with your product. On the comparison results page you can then filter the table of results further by clicking on the advanced options until you are left with those EW products that have the features you want. Finally, click on a row in the table to view more detailed information on your selected warranty product.
If you are viewing the website on a small laptop, tablet or mobile some of the columns of the table may not be displayed. To show more columns simply open the View Columns list and add them in.
What does the EW duration mean?
EWs can be bought for various durations, typically 1, 2, 3 or 5 years or one month at a time (PAYG). On this site the duration may include the manufacturer guarantee period - some benefits start from the end of the manufacturer's guarantee and some benefits are additional to the manufacturer's guarantee.
Pay Monthly agreements continue for as long as you make the monthly payment.
